What will a student experience at the Salt Lake Arts Academy?
Here is a glimpse at the typical school day.

8:30 - 10:50 a.m. Humanities (a two period block) – an integrated language arts and social studies curriculum that serves as a “home base” for students. The humanities classes are a mixed age group of 5th / 6th or 7th / 8th graders. PE instruction will also be provided during this time block as scheduled by the teacher.
10:55 - 11:35 a.m. Foreign Language – all students are required to take a foreign language class or a reading class if they are below grade level. We offer French I and II; German Foundations; Spanish I and II; and World Languages, a class that explores language families and linguistics. Other languages will be added.
11:35 am - 12:00 pm Lunch
12:05 - 1:10 p.m. Math – students are assessed for their proficiency and are placed at the level that matches their ability. Offering a range from Math 5 to Geometry.
1:15 - 2:20 p.m. Science / Writers Workshop – 5th and 6th graders attend science three days a week to fulfill the science core curriculum. Two days a week, they attend a writers workshop class.

7th grade science is one semester; students take Life Skills for the other semester.

8th grade science is for the entire year.

2:25 - 3:30 p.m. Over the course of 4 years, all students must complete music, performance arts (dance/drama), and visual arts Foundations I. As the students progress in their competencies, they are able to select which art form they would like to explore at greater depth.
Fridays On Fridays, foreign language and lunch are not scheduled. Classes run 45 minutes. School is dismissed at 12:40.
