Other Important Facts

School Times: Students need to be at school by 8:25 a.m. This will allow them enough time to arrive at their 1st pd. class by 8:30. On Mondays through Thursdays, school is dismissed at 3:35. On Fridays, school is dismissed at 12:40.

Lunch: We do not offer a hot lunch at the Arts Academy. Students need to bring their own lunch. While we are in our temporary location, there will be no opportunities to heat up lunches. Once we move into our long term home, we will have microwaves and hot water available for warm ups and soups. We will also have a student store that sells burritos, pizzas, drinks and other lunch items.

Transportation: Students can purchase a UTA pass that is good through September 15, 2008. Students need to bring this pass with them everyday! Being in the heart of downtown, there are a number of routes that will bring students close to the school. It is part of our vision that students learn how to use mass transit.

Supervision before and after school: Supervision of students begins at 8:00 a.m. We request that students do not arrive before this time. We offer after school music classes for students who are interested. We would recommend that if you need supervision for your student between 3:45 and 6:00 p.m, that you consider the Youth City program at CCRC. (600 S. 300 E.) They have an excellent program for a very reasonable cost. A counselor from this program escorts students to the center.

Dress Code: Students need to attend school in clothing and appearance that does not distract from our learning environment. This includes clothing that is tattered and immodest. As we are frequently walking to places in our community, it is important that students wear comfortable and safe shoes. We maintain the discretion that if a student is not appropriately dressed for our standards, we will either send him home or provide him with an appropriate outfit for the day. We want our students to positively represent not only themselves as they travel through our city, but our school as well.

Homework: Yes, we do expect students to have homework! Your student should have between 45 to 90 minutes each night. We also expect that students in the 5th - 8th grades should be able to take the responsibility to monitor and complete their homework without major parent intervention. We will offer frequent communication with parents because we know you want to know! Our mutual goal, however, should be to teach our students to accept this responsibility on their own.

Communication Loop: We have designed a variety of avenues to receive information from us. One of the most convenient is our parent group email. If you would like to be on the parent e-mail link click here to join.
